What roles do you play in life? Mom or dad? Grandparent? Spouse? Business woman / man? Student? Teacher? Daughter / Son? Caregiver?
Some roles in life we consciously choose, some were chosen for us by default. Since we just celebrated Mother’s Day, I wanted to take a moment to examine all the roles we play in life. The roles represent how we interact with others and the activities we pursue. Ask yourself, “Do I like the roles I’m playing?” Often times there can be guilt associated with some of the hats we wear, especially if we put forth more time and effort toward one role than another, and if there are roles that we feel obligated to fulfill. For example, when I am working, I may feel guilty that I am not spending as much time with my children or husband. But when I am playing and spending time with my family, I may feel guilty because I am not working.
The truth is, all roles we choose to play in life are important in our growth and development, and they are significant in the lives of others. So as you examine the roles you play, seek to allow for a balance in life. Even though certain phases in our life journey may encompass more time and energy toward a specific role, see your roles throughout your life– as all roles are relevant. And always remember, you are so much more than the roles you play!
I celebrate all of you today!
Affirmation: I allow myself to be the magnificent, unique, and dynamic person that I am, in any role that I am playing today!
